Sauna Rules & Regulations
All persons using the Sauna do so at their own risk. Risks include bodily injury and possibly death. If you have any reservations about using the sauna, such as medical conditions, underlying health problems (including low or high blood pressure, heart/cardiac issues), the use of prescription drugs and/or pregnancy, it is essential that you consult your GP before making a booking or using the sauna. If in any doubt, you should not use the sauna.
All persons using the cold water showers do so at their own risk. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you are able to withstand exposure to cold temperatures.
The changing area and space around the sauna can be used to store personal belongings during your sauna session but all persons do so at their own risk. BLOC accepts no responsibility or liability for missing, lost or stolen possessions.
Alcohol and smoking are not permitted in the Sauna. Do not drink alcohol before or whilst using the sauna as this can possibly lower blood pressure causing dizziness, fainting and also dehydration.
Nudity is not permitted in the sauna or the public areas surrounding the sauna. Swimwear must be worn at all times.
Jewellery should be removed before entering the Sauna to prevent burning. Ensure your swimsuit does not contain any slimming panels or metal parts which may heat up and possibly burn skin.
BLOC’s sauna operators reserve the right to refuse admission to intoxicated persons or for other reasons that may be deemed a health and safety risk. Refunds will not be offered to anyone refused admission.
Sauna etiquette must be adhered to at all times. This includes:
-
Spend no more than 15 minutes in the sauna at any one time. Leave the Sauna immediately if you start to feel uncomfortable, dizzy, nauseous, or lightheaded. Take care and move slowly as you exit. It is recommended to keep sessions to 5-15 minutes sessions but it is ok to leave the Sauna sooner if you start to feel uncomfortable
-
Follow operators’ instructions on how to gently drizzle water onto the hot rocks. Use the ladle provided to ensure that your arm stays away from the stove and the hot steam ('löyly') that will arise. Only pour the ‘sauna water’ (provided in the bucket inside the Sauna) on the hot rocks and nothing else. This should only be done intermittently to ensure the temperature does not increase too quickly and only when all users are seated.
-
Entering and exiting the Sauna in a safe and careful manner. Move slowly and give other users space to move. The area through which the sauna is accessed may become wet and slippery at times. Please use caution and wear flip-flops or sliders rather than bare feet or other footwear when preparing to enter (and upon leaving) the sauna.
-
Never touch the heater. Only trained members of staff are permitted to operate the heater and will be nearby for any queries. There is a guard between the benches and the stove. Do not hang towels or clothes to dry in the Sauna, as this may cause a risk of fire.
-
Keeping access points clear to allow other users to exit safely and swiftly if needed.
-
Respect other Sauna users. Check with the other Sauna users before pouring water on the rocks as this will produce hot steam and increase the intensity of the temperature in the Sauna.
-
To prevent your body from dehydration, drink plenty of cool water—between 2 to 4 glasses—after leaving the Sauna. Please bring sufficient drinking water with you.
-
Never drink alcoholic beverages. Drinking alcohol can possibly lower blood pressure and cause dizziness and also cause dehydration.
-
Do not eat just before you use the Sauna or inside the Sauna as you could become nauseated.
-
Bring a clean towel to sit on inside the Sauna. This helps to keep the Sauna clean and protect the benches from body oils.
-
Avoid using creams and lotions prior to using the Sauna. These can clog up your pores and prevent your skin from breathing and sweating efficiently.
-
Protect hair with a towel or sauna hat, regardless of its length. The intense heat can dry out the hair shafts, causing hair to be brittle and possibly break off.
-
After leaving the Sauna, take time to cool down in the cooler air. Alternate between the hot and cold to get the most out of a sauna experience.
-
It is recommended to rest for at least ten minutes after finishing your sauna session. Find a cool place where you can sit still. This will give your body some time to rebalance and for your heart rate to slow down.
-
An outdoor changing area is provided. Please bring all your belongings with you when you go to our sauna area. When you’ve finished in the sauna, get changed and fully clothed, footwear included, before re-entering the gym. Do not re-enter the gym without being fully clothed.
-
. Please use the outdoor showers before and after using the sauna. Do not enter the sauna until you have showered. Use only the outdoor showers provided. You cannot walk through the gym floor to and from the regular gym changing rooms/showers.
At all times, a staff member will be nearby for any queries and support you may need managing the heat and the water on the rocks. If anything is wrong, please inform us immediately.
